Budapest may be famous for its snow-capped, winter wonderland landscape, but summer is the season of fun and frivolity in the city. There are few better ways to celebrate the rising temperatures and longer days than a festival or two, and luckily, Budapest has a packed summer events calendar. From music at the Sziget Festival to culture at a short film festival and thrills at the Hungarian Grand Prix, these top festivals in Budapest are sure to make this summer one to remember.
Vajdahunyad Castle Summer Music Festival
There are few more romantic or spectacular venues for a classical music festival than Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest’s City Park. Over the course of a month, the Vajdahunyad Castle Summer Music Festival takes over this spectacular setting for a programme of live orchestra performances from an intriguing range of performers. Look out for the Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra, who specialise in lively renditions of traditional Hungarian folk music.

The proliferation of summer festivals in Budapest means there’s live music on tap all season long. One of the top draws for audiophiles, both local and visiting, is the Sziget Festival, which can rightly be considered Europe’s answer to Coachella thanks to its top-billed acts, upbeat crowds, artistic side programming and bohemian vibe.
